Jonathan Richard, MD

Dr. Richard is a board-certified Internal Medicine physician with 41 years of experience in private practice, 27 of which were solo practice in Colleyville. From colds to rheumatologic disorders, he has experience and an active interest in various diseases as well as preventative healthcare and wellness. His passion is being thorough when obtaining a patient history and performing a physical exam of a patient as he feels this leads to a more complete understanding of the patient and their needs as well as helping form a comprehensive list of possible disorders being confronted. Due to this philosophy, he is a strong believer in the face to face collection of information and the appropriate physical examination of the patient. Except for consultations, a patient never leaves the clinic without having had the physical contact performed during a physical exam.

In addition to the usual spectrum of disorders cared for by an Internist, he has experience in treatment of obesity, including managing patients on Mounjaro (tirzepatide), Wegovy/Ozempic (semaglutide), appetite suppressants and zero carb liquid protein diets, the diagnosis and treatment of low testosterone disorders and the screening, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis, including the interpretation of bone density (DXA) scans, having had a Hologic DXA scanner in his practice for many years.

His skills also include the performance and interpretation of cardiac stress tests and the interpretation of venous and arterial ultrasound studies and echocardiograms.

His guiding philosophy during all his years of group and then solo practice has been the expression, “people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care”. He doesn’t just “punt” patients to specialists when the diagnostic possibilities do not appear to fit the patient or the patient is having problems with a treatment, but goes to the medical literature first in order to gain more information on the situation the patient is having trouble with. He has found that many times this will hasten the diagnosis of a medical disorder and obviate the delays and additional cost and stress of consulting a specialist.

Dr. Richard maintains active membership in the American College of Physicians (the specialty organization for Internal Medicine physicians), the Texas Medical Association and the Tarrant County Medical Society. He has lived and practiced in Northeast Tarrant County for 41 years.
